These great little dogs are the miniature versions of the dog world. Many of these breeds are very ancient, which attests to the value that dogs have served from the earliest of times as a companion, and in some circles as an adornment.

In some AKC groups, the dogs share certain behavioral characteristics, but that does not hold true in this group, where many of the breeds are simply miniature versions of breeds from other groups. Others in this group have such ancient origins that they cannot be traced back to a larger ancestor.

These dogs are loved for their diminutive size and winsome expressions, and to many they are a sheer delight. And though tiny, many are quite tough and make great watchdogs (note: WATCH dogs, not GUARD dogs!).

Don't be surprised if many of the Toys you run into have "Little Dog Syndrome"! But this can be avoided by making sure your toy dog knows who is the boss or "alpha leader" in the home, just like with a larger dog.

Most of these dogs are great for city dwellers or others with small living spaces. Though they still need to go outside for fresh air and exercise, many can get a lot of their exercise running around their homes.

My name is "Buddy" and I'm a yellow lab. My favorite thing to do is fetch a ball. I also like to bark at cars and go swimming in the lake whenever I can. It's great to be a dog!
