AKC Non-Sporting Group

The Non-Sporting Group is the most diverse of all the AKC groups. In many ways it is the catch-all for breeds that are hard to classify or no longer have a specific function.

Some people like to call this group the Companion Group because most of these dogs have, in recent history, been mostly used for companionship. However, their backgrounds are so diverse, and there are so many other dogs that are also great companions, that the term Non-Sporting works best for categorization.

In this group, each dog needs to be evaluated on its own merits since there is not a common trait that binds them together. These dogs vary greatly in size, personality, and appearance, so take a look to see what dogs appeal to you in this diverse group of dog breeds.

My name is "Buddy" and I'm a yellow lab. My favorite thing to do is fetch a ball. I also like to bark at cars and go swimming in the lake whenever I can. It's great to be a dog!
